this morning i had a dream about confronting a 3 eyed demon. at least i think she was. it was difficult to tell. she was overly tall, and blue i think. but she definitely had 3 eyes. her name was some variation on deborah - but it was unpronouncable - too many consonants and not enough vowels - i tried to talk to her several times and she kept running away and tried to hide herself. towards the end of the dream i convinced her that i was not frightened by her appearance and we actually had a conversation in which i was able to see and talk to her. there was a blurry patch in the dream that seemed to involve doing tech support. and there was another bit where a white venus-like statue had glowing green points around it's collar bone area and pictures of an upside down - scantilly clad - madonna were being projected onto it.

i came to this country with a carpet bag and a dream. i wanted a good life for my children, smirnoff and stoli. anyway... i tried to plan a fun evening for my co-workers on friday and it happened..sort of. we had a nice dinner with minimal shop talk - then the movie. Rob Zombie's long anticipated celluloid nightmare - house of 1000 corpses. it's too bad one of them wasn't mine. W and i had purchased our tickets at movietickets.com and had them waiting on us. the others in our group were not as fortunate -or were they? the show had sold out and this was a disappointment for them. only because we didn't know what they would have witnessed, had they gotten in. the theater was packed and we ended up in the neck-break front row. i guess if you're going to witness this kind of tragedy, it's best up close. are you getting the sense that i REALLY hated this movie? a putrid steaming pile o' dog crap - please let the projector catch fire - i want my money back - who the hell brings their kindergarten age children to such a thing - excuse me while i wretch - i waited how long for this? i wanted a screener - a poster? ok give me a copy so i can find creative ways to destroy it. this made alien beach party massacre look like shakespeare. oh my gods, it was BAD. not bad in a good way. it wasn't even camp enough to be funny. take all your favorite moments from past horror movies - tie very loosely together with a makeshift story and bad acting - add hints of things that never come - mindless violence - shake well. take the death ride for instance. they bring up all the usual and famous killers of days gone by - gein, fish, etc. and make it a point to mention that they were cannibals. in fact when they list their "accomplishments" they make it a special point to say "and most importantly, they were a cannibal." does this ever come up again - in any fashion? NO. maybe if there was a tie in with the gas station/side show/chicken shack - it never happens. i thought maybe during the dinner scene at "the house" that this would come into play. nope. i kept waiting for the host to put on a party hat and sing the 8 second birthday song from rocky horror. all that was really missing was the electric knife and someone yelling "eddie, get your ass off the table!" when one of our heroines leaned into another actor i almost said "oh brad, i'm scared!" obvious rip offs from classic movies: anything about ed gein, texas chainsaw massacre, an old manson family documentary - what's the average age of your fans Rob? - would they get the reference? let's see, alice through the looking glass, a little american gothic (not the series, but the movie with yvonne decarlo), misc kidnap and torture movies - satan's cheerleaders, barn of the naked dead, maybe a dash of freaks. my point is - NOTHING original. and what the hell was up with that 30 second pause? was that supposed to be suspenseful? a send up to an old warhol film? people in the theater were getting restless and began asking if the film was broken. out of the mouths of babes. i think at that point W and i were hoping that was the case. please end it now! alas, it continued. when we came out of the theater the lobby was packed and people were - as W pointed out - trying to read our facial expressions. i put on a poker face and gave nothing away. we checked the ticket line on our way out to make sure K and his fiancee weren't back to try the 10:20 show. i would have had to pull them out of line and scream "NO, DON'T DO IT!" i felt bad when they couldn't get in earlier, and i ended up being jealous of them all the way home. i feel like a judas goat having led anyone to this crap.
