I dress myself!

Making good progress on my bid to eradicate all personal debt. Now, if my employer won't gyp me out of part of my pay....

It appears that I am only allowed to work 212 hours a month. Last month, I worked 256. The payroll dude was NOT pleased. But I hope he pays me anyway. At this rate, I may have my phone back within the next month, depending on if there are any more crop circles in the corn field next door. Stupid alien things....

In case I haven't updated anyone, my friend Eric, who lives JUST DOWN THE STREET, has a cable modem. Yes, they are here. I might just get one this month as well. But I don't know yet. Life is funny, eh? When I was leaving the hospital, I was sure that I would go absolutely nuts without a phone and internet access at home. Now I miss none of it. Kind of puts things in perspective, doesn't it?

Yep. Things are well. If I can only make the job hold together a couple of months longer, I will be in clover. Mmmmmmmm..... Yummy clover......

BTW - My vacation is still on. I think I will push back the date a bit, and plan on being there the first week of December 2003. Might be nice to see the mall for Christmas. Who knows....

(TUES) Reuters reports that the Federal Communications Commission has proposed record fines of $5.12 million against One Call Communications Inc. of Carmel, which does business as Opticom, "for allegedly preying on those who misdial popular numbers used for collect, credit card or other operator-assisted telephone calls .... engaging in what appeared to be 'a deliberate scheme to take advantage of consumers' dialing errors.' The FCC sent out staff to purposely misdial from different pay phones widely known dial-around services like AT&T Corp.'s (T) 1-800-CALL-ATT or WorldCom Inc.'s (WCOEQ) 1-800-COLLECT and found that Opticom and [another company] failed to notify callers they were using a different service or provide rates. 'This so-called 'fat-fingered dialing' problem, where companies deliberately choose toll-free numbers similar to nationally advertised access numbers, is not fair to consumers who inadvertently misdial a number but are not then informed that they have reached a different provider than the one dialed,' FCC Chairman Michael Powell said in a statement .... 'The consumer remains unaware that he or she has misdialed because Opticom fails to identify itself,' the FCC said. 'We believe that in using such deceptive means to obtain the consumer's business, Opticom's practices are analogous to slamming and should be penalized accordingly.' "

so saturday night/sunday morning i have this dream. my parent's apartment in new york had been broken into and i kept trying to call 911 on 2 different phones. the keypad was arranged in such a way that i was actually dialing 611, the non-emergency # in that area. i kept reaching uncaring people and my parents by that time were murdered. later i was guided to where they were buried by some stranger. their bodies were already rotting and for whatever reason, they were stuffed with chinese food and hamburger helper. i kept running into the killers on the streets and they were freaked out by my description of the bodies. they thought i was some kind of freak for not being upset and wanted very much for me to stop following them and giving them all the details. for some reason i thought my brother was in danger - and being the only family i had left, i went to his apartment to warn him and to make sure his doors were locked. this he couldn't do. every time i turned around, i had to lock the deadbolt or push the door closed. one by one the killers were being picked off by some unidentified man. switch to large log homes being built way outside the city. this had caused other homes to be demolished and this left some former locals homeless. among them were the remaining killers. we were driving along when the announcer on the radio said something about the new homes and a grand opening. this was supposed to be best viewed from the highway we were on. then a dam broke loose and hundreds or thousands of logs were launched into the river we were passing. cut to me standing on top of a post sticking out of the water and some girl i was with trapped on a lower post. we both ended up washing up and into the river. miracle. my parents were suddenly alive again (am i related to darkly noon?) and i was trying to call my brother on a phone they had - built into a floor lamp. i had a hard time getting a dialtone and his # was in another area code. apparently my parents had moved and were now in 765 territory. that's about it. i went to see notorious c.h.o. last night at key cinemas. it was ok. pretty blue, and at times preachy even.
